Mowing your grass is something that has to be done regularly during the summer months, but garden owners should still be cautious every time they use a lawn mower to avoid running over the cable and cutting it.
In case you do make the mistake of running over the cord, you might like to know what happens.
You may have been told as a child to steer clear of lawn mowers, as you could become electrocuted if you go over the wire. This is still true, as you might get an electric shock from the mower.
This could result in muscle spasms, vision and hearing problems, burns or unconsciousness.
That is why Electrical Safety First advises to use a plug-in Residual Current Device (RCD) when operating a lawn mower. This disconnects the power when there is a fault, preventing more electricity flow.
Phil Buckle, director general of Electrical Safety First, noted that lawn mower manufacturers tend to include information about RCDs in instruction manuals, but “the reality is that many people don’t bother”.
This is why two-thirds of people who regularly mow their garden do not use an RCD.
After going over the cord, if you are feeling okay, it is important not to try removing the cord from the blades if it is tangled. The first thing to do is to check no power is going to the machine.
Do not panic if your cord has been cut, as lawnmower repairs in Blackpool might be able to fix it for you.
